An icon of New York Art Deco: a 77-storey tower of 1930 rising 319 m, briefly the tallest building in the world until the Empire State edged past it. Its steel spire was assembled in secret inside the structure to beat a rival; the façade carries 61st-floor eagles and 31st-floor radiator-cap motifs — nods to Chrysler cars. The stainless-steel crown catches sunset light spectacularly.
