Castel San Pietro is the hill on the left bank of the Adige, opposite the Roman theatre, and Verona's most photogenic viewpoint. A temple of Diana stood here in Roman times, followed by a medieval fortress levelled in the eighteenth century; its walls and the old church of San Pietro in Castello survive. The terrace panorama takes in Ponte Pietra, the Arena's round roof and the Lamberti tower. Climb the stone stairway or ride the funicular.
