One of Italy's leading archaeology museums fills the 15th-century Palazzo Galvani steps off Piazza Maggiore. Its Egyptian collection is the country's second after Turin: sarcophagi, papyri and stelae brought back by Bolognese collectors in the 19th century. Other sections cover Etruscans from Bologna and Marzabotto, Celts, and Greek and Roman antiquity, capped by a plaster cast gallery. Entry is free on first Sundays.
