Munich's oldest parish: a church stood here even before the city's official founding in 1158. Its Gothic form took shape after medieval fires, and wartime destruction was only fully repaired in the 1980s. Inside are a baroque altar and old paintings, while a narrow spiral stair of over 300 steps climbs the 'Alter Peter' tower: from the 56-metre platform you can see Marienplatz, the town hall and, on clear days, the Alps.
