Munich's world-famous Rathaus-Glockenspiel adorns the 85-metre tower of the New Town Hall on Marienplatz. Dating from 1908, the mechanism features 43 bells and 32 life-sized figures that perform daily at 11:00 and 12:00. The upper tier depicts the 1568 royal wedding tournament of Duke Wilhelm V, while the lower tier shows the traditional coopers' dance celebrating deliverance from the plague, concluding with a crowing golden rooster.

Highlights

  • Daily mechanical puppet show powered by 43 resonant chimes
  • Reenactments of a 16th-century joust and the historic coopers' dance
  • Free spectacle viewed from Munich's central Marienplatz square
