The German Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich for the 1929 International Exposition at Montjuïc, is a landmark of modern architecture. It introduced the revolutionary concept of 'flowing space' using a flat roof supported by slender steel pillars and walls of golden onyx, Roman travertine, and green marble. The courtyard features Georg Kolbe's sculpture 'Dawn' and the iconic Mies-designed Barcelona chairs.
