A Gallo-Roman theatre on the Fourviere hill, built in the late 1st century BC and seating up to ten thousand spectators — the largest in Roman Gaul. The smaller odeon stands beside it, and together they form an archaeological park overlooking Lyon. Entry to the site is free, and every summer the Nuits de Fourviere festival fills the amphitheatre with audiences again. A walking path leads down from the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere.
