The Spanish Synagogue, built in 1868, stands on the site of Prague's oldest Jewish house of prayer. Its name refers to the Moorish Revival style inspired by the Alhambra: gilded interiors, stained glass and geometric ornament evoke an oriental palace. Today the synagogue belongs to the Jewish Museum in Prague, which covers the history of Czech Jews in the 19th and 20th centuries; chamber concerts are held here in the evenings.
