The principal active mosque in Sofia and a masterwork of Ottoman architecture, completed in 1566 by the legendary imperial architect Mimar Sinan. Its name translates to 'many baths,' referencing the natural thermal mineral springs over which it was constructed. The mosque is distinguished by its 15-meter-wide central dome, slender red-brick minaret, and delicate turquoise calligraphy decorating the historic prayer hall.
