The magnificent Prešeren Square, also known as Prešernov trg, is the city's main square and undoubtedly one of the most famous places to visit in Ljubljana. It is the lively heart of the city center and a popular starting point for sightseeing downtown and exploring the Old Town. Prešeren Square is named after the national poet France Prešeren, whose statue can be admired on the square today and makes for a popular photography subject. The vibrant pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation dominates the square and serves as a backdrop for many photos in Ljubljana. You can step inside to see the frescoes. During the hot summer months, creative sprinklers are set up on the square to cool down children (and children at heart).
