A ten-hectare park behind Saint-Charles station, opened in 1999 to celebrate 26 centuries of Marseille's history. It is laid out as four era-gardens: Greek with a colonnade, Roman, oriental and Provençal with plants of the French south. The elevated ground brings unexpected panoramas over the city and sea, and the fountain terraces make an easy picnic spot on a sunny day. A convenient pause between station and centre that most travellers miss.
