Located on the leafy island of Djurgården in Stockholm, the Nordic Museum (Nordiska museet) is Sweden's premier cultural history museum. Founded in 1873 by Artur Hazelius, it is housed in a magnificent Renaissance-style castle designed by Isak Gustaf Clason. The exhibitions explore Scandinavian folk culture, fashion, interiors, and Arctic Sami traditions from 1520 to the present, centered around a giant seated statue of King Gustav Vasa.
