The city's fine arts museum hides in a mansion built in the 1870s for Princess Kotchoubey; painter Jules Chéret later lived here and painted its ceiling, lending the museum his name. The collection runs from Italian baroque and Fragonard to the Impressionists — Monet, Sisley, Dufy — plus sculptures by Rodin. The mirrored, stuccoed halls stay quiet even in season, ten minutes off the Promenade des Anglais.
