A Victorian market hall of 1858 in the Smithfield quarter, carefully restored and reopened in 2017 as a food hall. Under its glazed roof and stained glass a dozen kitchens trade side by side: Neapolitan pizza, Asian noodles, British oysters and Manchester craft beer bars. Inside are timber beams, a mosaic floor and a noisy communal hall that fills to bursting by evening. A handy pause between the cathedral and the Northern Quarter.
