Mumbai's oldest museum, opened in 1872 as the Victoria and Albert and renamed in 1975 after physician and reformer Bhau Daji Lad. The grand Victorian building in the botanical garden of the Byculla zoo was restored and returned to the public in 2008. Its halls hold clay models, engravings and dioramas of everyday life and crafts in 19th-century Bombay, alongside contemporary shows. Gilded interiors with painted panels are reason enough to visit.
