Sight4.2 · 3 2044.1 · 1 132≈ 45 minFree entry

The world's largest open-air laundromat, established in 1890 during the British Raj beside Mahalaxmi railway station in south Mumbai. Every morning, hundreds of hereditary dhobis (washermen) scrub, beat against stone flails, rinse, and string up thousands of clothes and hotel linens along endless washing lines. The best panoramic vantage point over this bustling, labyrinthine hive of activity is free from the Mahalaxmi flyover bridge.

Highlights

  • World's largest open-air laundry operating since 1890
  • Thousands of dhobis hand-washing linens in stone troughs
  • Iconic free bird's-eye view from the Mahalaxmi flyover bridge
