Geneva's world-famous 140-meter-high fountain is the undisputed symbol of the city, soaring over Lake Geneva where it joins the Rhône. Originally built in 1886 as a safety valve for the city's hydraulic grid, it was relocated to its harbor jetty in 1891. Powerful pumps blast 500 liters of water per second into the sky at 200 km/h. Visitors can stroll along the stone pier to experience the thundering spray and vivid rainbows up close.
