Kyoto's most famous park for cherry-blossom viewing, right by the Yasaka shrine. Its star attraction is the huge weeping cherry called Gion shidare-zakura, illuminated on spring evenings while in bloom. Stone lanterns, teahouses, ponds and quiet alleys make it pleasant at any time of year, and it is a natural starting point for a walk to Kiyomizu-dera through Gion.

Highlights

  • Famous weeping cherry, Gion shidare-zakura
  • Hanami with evening illuminations in spring
  • Next to Yasaka Shrine, path to Kiyomizu-dera
