Verona's premier civic museum, housed in an imposing 14th-century red-brick castle of the Scaliger dynasty along the Adige River. The fortress was masterfully transformed by modernist architect Carlo Scarpa between 1958 and 1964 into a world-renowned museum space. Visitors admire Romanesque and Gothic stone carvings, medieval weapons, Venetian paintings by Bellini and Pisanello, and the iconic equestrian statue of Cangrande I.
