Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan) near Pattaya features a colossal 109-metre-tall outline of a seated Buddha etched onto a sheer limestone cliff. Laser-carved and inlaid with gold leaf in 1996 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of King Rama IX's accession to the throne, it is among the largest Buddha carvings worldwide. The surrounding landscaped grounds include lotus ponds, shady pavilions, and peaceful paths for meditation.
