Málaga Semana Santa Perfect spot

Sight5 · 3≈ 20 min

One of the best and most memorable times to visit Málaga is the period before Easter, when major processions and celebrations take place for Semana Santa. It is very significant (and extravagant!) — its exuberant crowds, spectacular platforms, and lively marching bands are truly special to experience. Since the Reconquista of Andalusia around 500 years ago, Holy Week has been celebrated in southern Spain in memory of the Passion of Jesus. Holy Week is, of course, an important event throughout Spain, but in Andalusia, and especially in Málaga, it takes on deep significance. This is partly because Catholic brotherhoods (the organizers and participants) are perhaps more prominent here than elsewhere in Spain. They hold masses throughout the year and have more staff to organize matters for the big week.
