The national memorial to the heroes who stood up to Reinhard Heydrich's terror occupies the crypt of the cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Prague. Here, in May–June 1942, the paratroopers of Operation Anthropoid — Gabčík, Kubiš and their comrades — were hiding; on 18 June the church was surrounded and every defender died fighting. Inside the crypt are an exhibition about the operation, bullet-scarred walls and the names of the fallen.
