Founded in 1936, this historic zoo is uniquely nestled right beneath the medieval brick ramparts of the Belgrade Fortress in Kalemegdan Park. Known as the Garden of Good Hope, it houses approximately 1,000 animals representing nearly 200 species. Its most famous resident is Muja the American alligator, who arrived in 1937 and is officially the oldest living alligator in captivity. The zoo is also renowned for breeding rare white lions.
