An equestrian monument to Russian tsar Alexander II on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, facing the National Assembly building. Created by Italian sculptor Arnoldo Zocchi and unveiled in 1907, it honours the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. The bronze rider remains a key figure of Bulgarian national memory; official ceremonies and flower-laying are still held here.
