The patriarchal cathedral of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and one of the largest Eastern Orthodox temples in the world. Built in Neo-Byzantine style between 1882 and 1912, it commemorates the soldiers who perished in the Russo-Turkish War that liberated Bulgaria. Its magnificent 45-metre central dome is gilded with real gold leaf, while the interior dazzles with Italian marble, Brazilian onyx, and masterfully painted frescoes.
