Housed in the stately 17th-century Turjak Palace, the City Museum of Ljubljana chronicles thousands of years of human settlement along the Ljubljanica. Its most famous treasure is the world's oldest wooden wheel with an axle, dating back some 5,200 years to prehistoric pile-dwellers. Visitors can also explore Roman Emona ruins in the basement, medieval guild artefacts, and engaging exhibitions on 20th-century city life.
