This cultural and theatrical landmark on French Revolution Square originated as a 13th-century monastery of the Teutonic Knights. In the 1950s, Slovenia's master architect Jože Plečnik ingeniously converted the historic complex into an open-air summer theatre. Plečnik adorned the central courtyard with expressive sgraffito patterns, rhythmic arcades, and an open lapidarium, creating an acoustic venue for the famed Ljubljana Summer Festival.
