Christ Church Cathedral is Dublin's oldest cathedral, founded around 1030 by Norse King Sitric Silkenbeard and later rebuilt by Anglo-Normans. The cathedral features an imposing Gothic nave, the medieval tomb of Strongbow, and a massive 12th-century stone crypt. As the largest crypt in Ireland and Britain, it displays historic church plate, royal charters, and the famously mummified 'Cat and the Rat' discovered inside an organ pipe.

Highlights

  • Vast 12th-century Romanesque crypt beneath the cathedral
  • Medieval tomb of the Anglo-Norman conqueror Strongbow
