An octagonal church and museum attached to Naples' oldest charity, founded in 1602 — the institution still helps the city's poor today. Above the altar hangs Caravaggio's Seven Works of Mercy of 1607, one of the city's essential paintings: seven scenes of compassion woven into a single shadowy canvas. Upstairs, a gallery of 17th–18th-century Neapolitan painting includes works by Ribera and Luca Giordano.
