Rome's most famous fountain and one of the most recognisable in the world: a baroque theatre set against a palazzo facade, Oceanus at the centre, and the coin-toss legend that guarantees your return to the Eternal City. Completed in 1762 to Nicola Salvi's design, it is fed by an aqueduct working since the 1st century BC. In the evening the lighting turns the square into an open-air stage.

Highlights

  • Toss a coin over your left shoulder to return to Rome
  • Oceanus statue in the triumphal arch
  • Evening lighting over the square
