The archaeological site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built around 350 BC as the monumental tomb for Mausolus, ruler of Caria, and his sister-wife Artemisia II. Reaching 45 metres in height, its grandeur originated the term 'mausoleum'. Today, this open-air sanctuary preserves the colossal stepped foundation stones, underground burial chambers, and scale models illustrating its original architectural splendour.
One of Anatolia's oldest surviving theatres, built in the 4th century BC under King Mausolus and expanded during the Roman era. Carved directly into the hillside, its stone tiers once accommodated up to 13,000 spectators. The upper rows offer sweeping panoramic views of Bodrum Bay, the marina, and the Castle of St. Peter. The monument is free to explore during the day and still hosts open-air concerts on summer evenings.

Although the public beach in Bodrum is more than adequate, if you are willing to travel a little, you will come across several outstanding beaches within a few kilometers. Blue Flag Bitez Beach is located a little to the west and is considered one of the best on the entire peninsula for families with young children. Sheltered to the east by a long headland, Bitez Beach is a shell-shaped bay with gravelly sand (bring flip-flops) and a large expanse of shallow, warm, and clear water. The shell-shaped bay is popular thanks to its calm and shallow waters and is known as a center for water sports such as parasailing, windsurfing, and kayaking. It is also popular for the large swing in the sea. The beach also serves as a departure point for several sightseeing boat trips and cruises to Orak and Black Islands.
