Yellow Fortress

An 18th-century fortification on a cliff above eastern Sarajevo, part of the defensive walls of the Vratnik quarter. Today it is the city's favourite free viewpoint: the platform looks over the roofs of Bascarsija, the minarets and the surrounding hills, especially beautiful at sunset when the lights come on. During Ramadan a cannon is fired here to mark the end of the daily fast. The uphill walk from the centre takes about twenty minutes.
