This 17th-century Protestant landmark on the Prinsengracht canal in the Jordaan district is an emblem of Amsterdam's Golden Age. Designed by Hendrick de Keyser, its 85-metre Westertoren remains the tallest church tower in the city, famously crowned by the blue Imperial Crown of Emperor Maximilian I. The church contains the burial place of master painter Rembrandt van Rijn, and its bells are poignantly described in Anne Frank’s diary.
