Wat Phantao sits in Chiang Mai's historic old city, directly beside the renowned Wat Chedi Luang. Its main highlight is the magnificent wooden viharn Hor Kham, constructed in 1876 from dark teak panels that once served as a royal throne hall. Over the entrance portal, an intricate gilded carving depicts a peacock, the royal symbol of Lanna kings. During the Yee Peng festival, hundreds of lanterns illuminate the tranquil garden pond.
