Wat Pha Lat is a quiet forest temple on the slopes of Doi Suthep, on the way up to the hilltop Wat Phra That. Legend says the white elephant carrying a Buddhist relic rested here in the 14th century. Among the jungle stand a chedi and moss-covered statues, a small waterfall murmurs nearby, and the terrace looks out over Chiang Mai. The Monk's Trail leads here from the city zoo, about an hour on foot.
