Wat Chiang Man is the oldest working temple of Chiang Mai, founded soon after King Mangrai established the city in the late 13th century. Sculpted elephants appear to prop up the massive chedi — a hallmark of Lanna architecture. The halls hold revered statues: the crystal Buddha Setangamani and the stone Phra Sila, credited with the power to bring rain. Entry is free; dress should cover shoulders and knees.
