Erected in 1548 by Venetian architect Giovanni Battista, this semicircular red-brick fortress historically guarded the northern approach to Old Town Warsaw. As one of Poland's few preserved fortified barbicans, it marks the boundary between the Old and New Towns. Faithfully rebuilt from historic bricks after World War II, the bastion's towers, gates, and ramparts now provide a picturesque promenade frequented by local artists.
