Wild wetland inside Bucharest, born from an abandoned construction site: under Ceaușescu a reservoir basin was started here, but the project was dropped after 1989 and nature reclaimed the void. Some 180 hectares of water, reeds and willows now shelter herons, cormorants, foxes and turtles; in 2016 it was declared Romania's first urban nature park. City blocks at your back — and the sounds of a real marsh all around.
