University Square

Sight4.5 · 8 6153.9 · 157≈ 22 minFree entry192 m from the center

One of Bucharest's key squares, named after the university building (1857) on its western side. Statues of national heroes — Michael the Brave, Gheorghe Lazăr, Spiru Haret and Ion Heliade Rădulescu — stand at the corners. The square has repeatedly been the stage for mass protests; a major metro interchange lies below, and the old town starts a block away.
