The memorial complex to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide, on a hillside above Yerevan and opened in 1967. Twelve leaning slabs surround an eternal flame, and a 44-metre stele split in two rises beside them as a symbol of rebirth. The on-site institute-museum holds documents and testimonies; every 24 April the whole city comes here.
