The Royal Dramatic Theatre ('Dramaten') at Nybroplan is Sweden's national stage for spoken drama, established by King Gustav III in 1788. Its striking white marble Art Nouveau building opened in 1908, featuring gilded bronze statues by Carl Milles on the facade and an opulent marble foyer adorned with frescoes by Carl Larsson. The theatre holds legendary status through its close ties to film director Ingmar Bergman and star Greta Garbo.
