The Museum of Political History of Russia occupies the Art Nouveau mansion of ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya, built in 1904–1906 by Alexander von Hogen; Lenin spoke from its balcony in the spring of 1917. Exhibitions span a century and a half of Russian history — the revolution, the Civil War, the Soviet era and perestroika — mixing documents, propaganda art and personal belongings of rulers and revolutionaries.
