Founded in 1909 on a tranquil wooded island connected to Helsinki by a white footbridge, this open-air museum preserves Finnish rural heritage. Nearly ninety historical timber buildings from provinces across the country have been reassembled here, including the 1686 Karuna wooden church, farmsteads, tar boats, and windmills. Visitors stroll among tame squirrels and seaside pine forests; access to the island park is free.
