Serralves is a cultural foundation in western Porto, established in 1989. Its core is the Museum of Contemporary Art, opened in 1997 to a design by Alvaro Siza: a restrained white building wrapped around a sunken courtyard. The 1930s park of 18 hectares holds camellias, ponds and a small farm, with the art deco Casa de Serralves villa nearby. Portugal's key contemporary art shows are staged here, with an elevated treetop walk over the canopy.
