An 18th-century jewel of Neapolitan Baroque art, conceived by the enigmatic polymath and Freemason Prince Raimondo di Sangro. It is celebrated worldwide for Giuseppe Sanmartino's sculpted masterpiece, the "Veiled Christ" (1753), whose marble shroud appears miraculously translucent. Down in the underground crypt stand the mysterious "Anatomical Machines", exhibiting real human skeletons with preserved circulatory vessels.
