Safdarjung Tomb in Delhi is the last grand garden tomb of the Mughal architectural era, built in 1754 for the prime minister of the Mughal Empire. Set within a classical charbagh symmetrical garden divided by water canals, the mausoleum is built from red and buff sandstone topped by a soaring bulbous white marble dome. Its ornate plasterwork, arched pavilions, and tranquil ambiance capture late Mughal design at its most theatrical.
