Princes Street is Edinburgh's central thoroughfare, dividing the Georgian New Town from the medieval Old Town. Planned in the 1760s, it is uniquely built up almost entirely on its northern side. This architectural choice opens up spectacular, unobstructed views across Princes Street Gardens toward Castle Rock and Edinburgh Castle. The street is also home to the soaring Victorian Gothic Scott Monument and iconic department stores.
