The Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux is a neoclassical gem built in 1773-1780 by Victor Louis, architect of Paris's Odéon. Twelve Corinthian columns carry statues of the nine muses and three goddesses; inside survive the grand staircase and a horseshoe auditorium in teal and gold. It hosts the Opéra National de Bordeaux with performances, concerts and ballet. Daytime tours lead through the halls; the grand foyer counts among France's most beautiful.
