"La dolce vita" is indeed represented at Odeonsplatz in Munich: the Italian square is complemented by a late Baroque church, a building designed in the style of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, and plenty of hustle and bustle. It also serves as the northern boundary of the pedestrian zone and is the starting point of Ludwigstrasse. In the immediate vicinity of Odeonsplatz there are numerous attractions, including the Residenz palace with the Hofgarten (Court Garden), the Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshals' Hall), the Theatinerkirche (Theatine Church), several palaces, and the extensive Bazargebäude (Market Building). King Ludwig I designed the square modeled after Italian squares. The neoclassical buildings, inspired by Rome, make you feel as though you are in a little piece of Rome. On the square you will see the Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshals' Hall), a monument dedicated to the Bavarian army, created by Ludwig I, the Residenz on one side, and the Theatinerkirche (Theatine Church), dedicated to the birth of Prince Maximilian Emanuel in 1662.
