Nyhavn

Historic site4.7 · 7 9914.5 · 30 120≈ 22 minFree entry

A 17th-century harbour lined with brightly coloured townhouses — Copenhagen's most photogenic postcard. The canal was dug in the 1670s for merchant ships, sailors and craftsmen settled along its quays, and the fairy-tale author Hans Christian Andersen lived at numbers 18, 20 and 67. Historic wooden ships moor along the water, backed by cafes and restaurants. It is an open public street, free to stroll and at its busiest on summer evenings.

Highlights

  • 17th-century houses in bright colours
  • Andersen's homes: numbers 18, 20, 67
  • Historic wooden ships at the quay
  • Cafes along the old canal
